Step-by-step: Flip Flap Card

I don't know if this is the right term for this type of card, but it's what I'm going with! Seems to make sense! :) It was the other project that we made for October's Stamp Club Technique Night. Again, it's made with that gorgeous Blizzard Wrapping Paper from the Holiday Mini. The piece of Bashful Blue cardstock was cut to measure 3" x 9" and was scored at 3" and 6" Diagonal score lines were added as well. Here's a quick diagram:

Step 1: Fold the cardstock at the 3" and 6" score lines.

Step 2: Fold back on the left diagonal line as shown in picture.

Step 3: Repeat with the right diagonal line as shown in picture.

Step 4: Apply adhesive between the triangle flaps on each side. Your piece of cardstock will look like it does in the picture (hopefully!).

Step 5: Adhere the square of Blizzard Wrapping Paper to the centre of the card. Adhere the square of Whisper White cardstock on top.

Step 6: Fold the triangle flaps in so that you can see the cardfront. Adhere the triangle pieces of wrapping paper onto the front of each flap.

Step 7: Stamp snowflake images (these are from Snow Burst) in Bashful Blue ink on the rectangle of Whisper White cardstock.

Step 8:Stamp the 'Merry Christmas' image (from Holidays & Wishes) in Chocolate Chip ink in the centre of the Whisper White cardstock.

Step 9: Adhere the Whisper White cardstock to the rectangle of Bashful Blue cardstock. Add a strip of adhesive to the back of the Bashful Blue cardstock (along the centre, as shown). Fold the piece of Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon in half.

Step 10: Stick the ribbon down to the Bashful Blue cardstock so that it is in the centre of the length of ribbon.

Step 11: Adhere the rectangle to the bottom triangle flap as shown (you'll have to watch how much adhesive you put on as you don't want adhesive on the part that opens).

Step 12: Close the card up, wrap the ribbon around the back of the card and tie into a bow!

You may be addicted to Stampin' Up! if...

This was something that was mentioned at Regionals in September and it gave me a good chuckle. Of course, they had funny pictures of head office staff members to accompany each reason, but it's pretty cute on its own. Sorry I'm not posting the second step-by-step instructions tonight. Blogger is giving me a hard time and it won't let me post any pictures tonight. Hopefully it will be more cooperative tomorrow!

Here goes:

You may be addicted to Stampin' Up! if:

  • You have used Sticky Strip to repair a wardrobe malfunction
  • You have used Stampin' Write Markers to colour your hair
  • You have used your Heat Tool to set your manicure
  • You use Stampin' Mist as a beverage
  • You have created a piece of clothing from Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Paper (this one was the cutest picture - someone at head office had made (and worn) a dress made completely from DSP - adorable!)

Okay - whew! I thought that I was addicted to Stampin' Up!, but I guess I'm not that bad just yet! :)

Step-by-step: Jumbo Eyelet Mini Book

Here are the instructions for assembling the Jumbo Eyelet Mini Book that we made at October's Stamp Club Technique Night. Super simple! Stay tuned for the mini card step-by-step tomorrow!

Step 1: Stamp large and small snowflake images from "Snow Burst" in Chocolate Chip ink on the Chocolate Chip covers.

Step 2: Stamp snowflake images in the bottom right-hand corner of each Very Vanilla "page" using Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip ink.

Step 3: Fold up the scored piece of Blizzard wrapping paper so that it looks like the photo.

Step 4: Set the Crop-A-Dile so that the 1/8" hole will punch 1/2" from the edge of the book (click on picture to enlarge so that you can see a close-up).

Step 5: Line up the covers behind the Very Vanilla pages so that the pages are centred but lined up with one edge of the covers (see picture). Punch 2 holes with the Crop-A-Dile. Repeat with the spine of wrapping paper that you folded in step 3.

Step 6: Arrange the pages between the covers and place them inside of the spine. Insert a jumbo eyelet into each hole. You may need to make the holes slightly larger with your Crop-A-Dile so that the eyelets will pop in easily.

Step 7: Set the eyelets with the Crop-A-Dile. If you don't wish to see the eyelet back on the back of the book, double-mount the eyelets by inserting a second eyelet into the back of the first eyelet. It will give you a clean look.

Step 8: Stamp the 'Happy Holidays' image from "Glad Tidings" in Chocolate Chip ink on the piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Adhere this piece onto the Chocolate Chip cardstock.

Step 9: Wrap the piece of Wide Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon around the piece of Bashful Blue cardstock, adhering the ribbon ends to the back of the cardstock.

Step 10: Adhere the piece from Step 8 onto the piece from Step 9. Adhere to the cardfront. Voila!

A little teaser!

Here are the projects that we did for October's Stamp Club Technique Night. Don't you just love the Designer Wrapping Paper in the Holiday Mini catalogue? These cards were made with the "Blizzard" wrapping paper - a beautiful colour combination. Did you know that the wrapping paper is acid and lignen free??? It's safe for card making, scrapbooking and papercrafting, and if you look at the different patterns, they can be used for more than just Christmas projects! When you think of it that way, each roll (at 25' x 17.5") can last you a very long time and is a very inexpensive way to get patterned background paper!

Okay - enough blabbering. Here are the details about the cards (step-by-step tutorial will follow tomorrow!):

Mini Card
Stamps: Snow Burst, Holidays & Wishes
Paper: Bashful Blue, Whisper White, Blizzard Designer Wrapping Paper
Ink: Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip
Tools: Paper Snips (a bone folder is helpful too!)
Accessories: Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon

Jumbo Eyelet Mini Book
Stamps: Snow Burst, Glad Tidings
Paper: Bashful Blue, , Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Blizzard Designer Wrapping Paper
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue
Tools: Paper Snips, Crop-A-Dile
Accessories: Wide Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Pewter Jumbo Eyelets

Here's an inside view. The inside pages are stamped in the corner with Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip snowflake images. A very cute little booklet that's great for recipes, gift lists - anything! Check out this link for some other great examples. This was a project that I saw at Regionals in September and just loved! It can be mailed in a regular envelope and requires only 2 stamps (to account for the thickness of the eyelets). I also "double-mounted" the jumbo eyelets, so the back looks just like the front. To do this, I set the initial eyelets in the front, then turned the book over, lined up another eyelet through the back and set it with the Crop-A-Dile. The "mushed up" back of the eyelets don't show this way - they get stuck in the middle - sweet!

Sunday's Stamping Session

On Sunday, some of my customers got together to have a little appreciation afternoon for me to celebrate my "Demonstrator Anniversary". I've been a proud Stampin' Up! demonstrator since July of 2005 and have the greatest, most creative customers. I am always so excited when I can spend the day stamping and it's so much better when the time can be spent with such great friends.

A big thank you to everyone for a great afternoon and great treats. I was serenaded with a song written by Nancy and I was also spoiled by receiving a beautiful card from each of my ladies. I'm so proud!!! Here are their beautiful creations:

Nancy's card

Jen's card

Tara's cards

Melissa M's card

Karen's card

Diana's card

Heather's card

Mom's card (Lynn)

What a talented and thoughtful group of ladies! Thanks again!

I'll leave you with a few more pictures. The last one is of Mom and I. We dressed up for the occasion - I loved Mom's costume! She had fake brads attached to her shirt and a name tag that read "Hello my name is Brad"!

Desktop Coaster Calendar

Just a quick post today - it's been a hectic day and I've only just had the chance to sit down.

Here's what I've been plugging away on lately - Desktop Coaster Calendars! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! I have 9 of them started and at various stages of completion. I don't have any that are totally finished yet, as I'm still embellishing the inside, but I'm pleased with the outside. I will have to post pictures of the inside once I complete them. I can't wait to put them out at the craft fairs!

I used the Cutie Pie Designer Series Paper (DSP) from Stampin' Up!, which is absolutely GORGEOUS! If you haven't checked out this DSP, you HAVE to! It's so bright and cheery and fabulous! To make things even better, this DSP and ALL DSP will be part of a great promotion in November - the Paper Party Promotion! In November, when you purchase 3 packages of DSP, you get the fourth one for free! Imagine all of the cards, scrapbook pages and paper crafting you could do!!!

Okay - back to the calendars. The colour combination is Rose Red, So Saffron, Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery. I also used Whisper White and Basic Grey. The 'enjoy' and 'every moment' images are from a new set called "Enjoy Every Moment", which will be available in the Spring/Summer Catalogue, coming out January 1st. It's a beautiful set and I can't wait to play around with it a little more - SO versatile! It was the set that I earned for reaching a sales goal after attending Regionals.

Stamps: Enjoy Every Moment, In The Spotlight
Paper: Cutie Pie DSP, Whisper White, Basic Grey
Ink: Rose Red, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, Basic Grey
Tools: Crop-A-Dile, 5 Petal Punch, Spring Bouquet Punch, 3/16" Corner Rounder Punch
Accessories: Apricot Appeal Grosgrain Ribbon, Silver Brads, Dimensionals, Paper Snips, metal rings (from office supply store)

P.S. Stay tuned for another post tomorrow. I have lots of pictures to post from Sunday - a few of my wonderful customers held an appreciation day for me and we had an absolute blast. I am so blessed to have spent the afternoon with such fantastic ladies! Wait til you see their gorgeous cards!

Something new!

Bad blogger again. Life is just too hectic and stamping just doesn't get the time that it deserves! I did however, get a great day of stamping in on Saturday with Mom. I love these days. We get so much done together and it's fantastic to spend the time together. Love you, Mom!

I've been plugging away on some craft sale items for November's craft sales. I've been working on some desktop calendars and card organizer boxes (cards included). I will have to post pics of the calendars later - I'm falling in love with them and it's a great way to feature Stampin' Up!'s gorgeous Designer Series Papers! Anyway - I won't tempt you too much with them as it will be a while before I take pics of them. So many other things to blog about in the meantime, like this card that I've included in the card organizer boxes - they have 10 assorted cards inside, along with tabbed dividers. Here's one of the card designs - a male birthday card:

Stamps: Headline Alphabet, Everyday Flexible Phrases, So Much, Polka Dots & Paisley
Paper: Sage Shadow, Handsome Hunter, Very Vanilla
Ink: Sage Shadow, Handsome Hunter, Versamark
Tools: Coluzzle, Heat Tool, Power Pals
Accessories: River Rock Double-Stitched Ribbon, Copper Embossing Powder (retired)

P.S. I will be placing an order this Thursday. If you need something and would like to place an order, please give me a call or send me an e-mail and I will add it to the order! Thanks!

Save on Wrapping Paper!

Due to a misprint in the "Purely Holiday" Designer Wrapping Paper from the Holiday Mini Catalogue, this set of wrapping paper will no longer be available. Now with the bad news comes the great news! Single rolls of Designer Wrapping Paper are available for purchase! This roll is the River Rock coloured design from the set - it contains a pattern rather than text, so there is no misprint on these rolls. You can order it in one-roll packages for $11.50, using item code 111995. It coordinates beautifully with the Purely Pomegranate Satin Ribbon (109863), Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon (109862), and the "Hand-Selected" Accents & Elements (110228). When you purchase one of these rolls, you will save almost $1! Don't forget - this wrapping paper looks fabulous as a background paper on cards, and can be used for scrapbooking as well - it's acid and lignin free!!! Imagine how many projects you could make with one 25' roll - the possibilities are endless and the value is unbeatable!

Contact me today to order your rolls of wrapping paper!

Yippeeeeeee!

Stampin' Up! announced today that 12 x 12 cardstock will be available in solid colour packs in the upcoming Spring/Summer catalogue!!! In July, they had retired it and replaced it with colour family assortments and a handful of popular colours in solid packs, but they will all be coming back in January!!! WOOHOO!!!! Fantastic news for stampers, scrapbookers and papercrafters alike!

Yikes!

Sorry - just a quick post. I've been trying to post for the last few hours but Blogger wouldn't agree with me and then it wouldn't let me add pictures. Anyway - as a result, this is a quick one. I just don't have the oompf left in me for a long post! It was a typical Monday where everything went wrong and to top it off the Leafs just lost to Buffalo in the worst possible way. Hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day! :)

Anyway - I placed an order this weekend and ordered another 2 punches. Why you ask? Beacause you can never have enough punches!!! HA! I think I'll be up to 27 or something. I'm losing count! I just can't help it - SU punches are FABULOUS!!! My mom and I had a stamping afternoon on Saturday and I hauled out all of my punches so they'd be more accessible. I almost fell over! Check it out:

Love, Love, Love that Scallop Circle Punch!

Here is a card that we made at the Open House that I had at the end of September. I just love the Scallop Circle Punch - it has so many uses and is just so adorable! Who needs to buy expensive Prima flowers when you can make your own???

To make the flower, I punched a Groovy Guava Scallop Circle and sponged the inside with Ruby Red ink and a sponge dauber. I then layered a 3/4" Chocolate Chip Circle on top. To make the petals, I used my Paper Snips to cut in toward the centre of the flower in each little indentation of the scallop (but not through the Chocolate Chip cardstock. The tips of the petals were sponged with Ruby Red ink and a sponge dauber.

To make the petals more realistic and 3-D, I folded the petals up and then curled them back around my finger. A Jumbo Pewter Eyelet (my favourite!) was added to the flower centre with my Crop-A-Dile and then the flower was adhered to the card using Glue Dots. Super simple, super cheap and another great use for that fabulous Scallop Circle punch!

Here are the rest of the details:

Stamps:Priceless, Jumbo Rough Texture Wheel
Paper: Groovy Guava, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Ruby Red, Versamark
Tools:
Scallop Circle Punch, Crop-A-Dile,
Sponge Daubers, 3/4" Circle Punch, Paper Snips, Jumbo Wheel Handle
Accessories:
Jumbo Pewter Eyelet, Wide Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon, Glue Dots

Step-by-step: Simple Tote Bag

At Hamilton Regionals, we learned how to make the most adorable little tote bag. It's the perfect size for small gift giving and fits love notes (3x3) and envelopes or even note cards and small envelopes. A quick and easy project and a great stationary gift for a friend and it uses just one sheet of Stampin' Up!'s gorgeous double-sided Designer Series Paper. Here are the instructions:

Step 1: Score a piece of 12 x 12 double-sided Designer Series Paper at 1" and 11". I used a sheet from Soft Sky Prints.

Step 2: Apply adhesive to the strips that were score and fold inward along the score lines.

Step 3: Turn the piece of cardstock and score 3.5" from each side.

Step 4: Fold the cardstock on the score lines. Apply a strip of SNAIL along the edge of the right hand flap. Fold the cardstock up (it will look like an open tube).

Step 5: Turn the tube so that the open ends are on the sides and score at 5". You can apply a little more pressure, as you are scoring quite a few layers).

Step 6: Score at 4 1/4" and 5 3/4" (you will now have three scored lines side by side).

Step 7: Fold the tube up so that it looks the way it does in this picture. You will want to ensure that the side of the tube that has the join in it is on the inside once it is all folded up.

Step 8: Apply adhesive between the two sides of the tube so that they will join together. NOTE: Do not apply adhesive inside the tube or you will not have any pockets in which to put your gift! (If you look in the picture, I'm still able to put my fingers in both sides of the tube.)

Step 9: Punch holes and add ribbon (I used the Horizontal Slot Punch and Double Stitched Blue Bayou ribbon here, but I also love the look of wide grosgrain ribbon with jumbo eyelets - gorgeous!). Embellish, stamp and stuff as desired and have fun! This bag held 3 finished love note cards and three matching love note envelopes!

A little humour for your Tuesday!

While I was surfing my favourite blogs today (or "blurfing" as Corie would say), I found the funniest link on Dawn's blog. It's a link to a video of the "Man Made Card". Definitely worth a look if you're in the mood for a laugh. Check it out:

How to make a card using the tools in your garage

My favourite part? Definitely the watermark. Wouldn't it be easier for him to just use Stampin' Up! supplies? Power tools make things way too complicated! :) Ha! Ha! Enjoy!
